Mahnam- environmental teaching toward Managment of social transformation

Good afternoon everyone, it’s my pleasure to be with you today to tell you about the work of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO in the field of environmental teaching toward Managment of social transformation programme of unesco.
We all are aware, in today’s world, nongovernmental organizations and academic societies play an important and influential role in promoting research and advising policy-maker entities. The Iranian Association for cooperation with UNESCO (IACU) aims at promoting the quantitative and qualitative level of education and research as well as the social responsibilities of individuals and organizations with respect to the humanitarian goals of UNESCO and national and international relations. goal of this association is to undertake effective actions, especially with respect to environmental issues, climate changes, social partnerships and promotion of ethical behaviors in cooperation with the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO. To this end, the association intends to hold an expert meeting on environmental issues to raise awareness about the importance of environment and to teach parents and educators about the preservation of environment.
Urban development and the crisis of urbanisation, rapid technological changes, regional ethnic and religious tensions, international migration, poverty and discrimination, advancements in medicine, research and technology that raise ethical questions, and all of them will growing environmental concerns, compounded by climate change, are among the most important realities of our transforming world, today.
An Intergovernmental meeting responsible for finalizing a draft declaration of ethical principles in relation to climate change was held from the 27 to 30 of July 2017 in Paris.Taking into account ethical principles such as avoiding harm, solidarity and sustainability, this UNESCO project of a declaration has taken one more important step and It is closer to finally inspire governments, businesses and individuals to claim a moral basis when tackling the threat posed by climate change to people and the planet.
Considering the Statements which draw the attention of national commissions to the issue of climate change and its subsequent challenges such as destruction of moral values, the first responsibilities of national commission is raising the awareness of authorities and researchers about these challenges at national level, and the second responsibilityof field offices and national commissions is management of citizenship education and promotion of social participation for resolving the challenges on the way of protecting environment. Environmental protection requires the scientific cooperation of all governmental and nongovernmental organizations and NGos and scientific and research interaction of the international organizations working in this regard. The National Commission, in cooperation with other organizations, plays a very crucial role in realization of this goal, and such meetings can pave the way for implementation of proper projects and organization of conferences for raising the awareness of authorities and researchers. The important trait of today’s meeting is addressing youth , even students, because of the effective method of UNESCO in protecting environment is instructing students and raising their awareness in this regard.
Rethinking youth engagement with UNESCO( the document 39/INF.20) (which is expected to be adopted in the 39th General Conference) indicates the influential role of youth, their innovation and creativity in developing action plans for resolving the environmental challenges. It requires the participation of youth in research and policy-making fields and employing their skills and executive and scientific potentials in the plans of policy-makers and researchers.
We hope that this meeting can reinforce the synergistic interaction between the National Commission and UTCO and other related organizations; we are pleased that APA support can improve the visibility of scientific and operational progresses at national and international levels.
